Taekkyeon (Taekkyun/Taekkyon/태껸/택견) is a traditional martial art of Korea. Taekkyeon is well known for its variety of kicking skills and smooth and rhythmic, yet fast and powerful movement.

Taekkyeon barely survived under the oppression by the Japanese Colonialism (1910-1945). Only by the late Grandmaster Song Deok Ki (1893~1987), who was later recognized by the Korean government as the holder of Widae Taekkyeon, the 76th Important Intangible Cultural Property, Taekkyeon could maintain its form.

Taekkyeon was also recognized by Unesco as an intangible cultural heritage.

World Taekkyeon Federation (WTKF, 세계태껸연맹)

World Taekkyeon Federation (WTKF) is based in Los Angeles, California. WTKF’s purpose is to educate, promote, and enhance Taekkyeon as competitive martial arts and rich cultural heritage. The organization honors the heritage of Taekkyeon that has been maintained by late Grandmaster Song Deok Gi and Grandmaster Ko Yong Woo who had practiced under the Grandmaster Song from 1969.
